2 Photograph by Juanmartin Acevedo DEAR ALL, Wow – it’s almost the end of the year! I can’t believe how quickly this year has flown by. We’re approaching the last few weeks of the year and things are really getting exciting for us as we prepare for the silly season. There are a few more tricks up our sleeves on the product announcement front, some can be seen in the following pages. Also, one or two more events will need some more travel before the end of the year. Most retailers are gearing up for the usual Black Friday, Cyber Monday rush and then the headlong dash to Christmas. We have already launched a cashback promotion on most of our popular pro lenses and some pro video cameras. Keep an eye out for even more as we go towards the end of the year. Obviously, the greatest interest will be around the development of our new flagship camera replacing the EOS 1Dx MkII – not to mention the last two RF lenses for this year. I’ve been fortunate to have been shooting on the RF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS lens now for a few weeks and I can honestly say it’s the greatest 70-200mm f2.8 lens I’ve ever used: - delivering epic image quality in a really small form factor. The radical Defocus Smoothing technology in the RF85mm f1.2 DS lens is sure to be very interesting for fashion and beauty shooting looking for the smoothest, cleanest soft areas of images with super shallow depth of field. These announcements at the end of 2019 look set to prepare us for an exciting start to 2020. Next year should be a big one for most manufacturers as the Olympic Games is a massive photographic event and the return of the Photokina photographic trade show in Germany in May 2020 should draw some renewed interest in serious photography. Canon has made a statement about continuing development in all 4 of the biggest sectors in the market right now: crop mirrorless, crop DSLR, Full Frame mirrorless. Full-frame DSLR’s and we have seen announcements in all 4 of them over the last year. Although by the end of 2019, CIPA in Japan predicts that mirrorless cameras shipped from all manufacturers in Japan will equal DSLR’s shipped for the first time. This is an interesting prediction, but good news for the two biggest names still making DSLRs. Until our final issue just before Xmas, keep Clicking away!
