EDITOR’S NOTE 2 DEAR ALL, Wow – the end of the year went by so fast! It feels like just yesterday I was writing the Ed’s Letter for the December issue! I hope you all had a pleasant festive season and managed to take advantage of some of the year-end specials and cashback promotions we had until 24 December. The response to these promotions in SA has been astounding and we were really pleased that we were able to reward you with a little more cash in your account over the silly spending season. The new year has started slowly but I can already see some anticipation on the online review sites and forums as to what new tech and products this year will bring. All I know right now is that it might be a little quieter than normal this year as some of the major shows for photography have been either cancelled or postponed. I think big brands may be spending a bit more money on research and end-user promotions rather than big product showcase at major photo fairs/expos and shows. It is too early to say, but I think that 2020 might be a really big year for change as far as the photography market is concerned. Mirrorless most certainly looks like it will be the future of photography as all of the big brands have invested significantly already in this tech. Suffice it to say that Canon will most certainly be up there with all the other players in full frame mirrorless technology, without ignoring existing markets where we are quite dominant like DSLR and small sensor mirrorless. If you look closely at all of our competitors – they have all sacrificed certain product groups/ categories to focus on a single area. This has allowed brands like Canon to take a bigger share of traditional DSLR, small sensor Mirrorless, compact digital cameras and entry-level/mid- range video cameras. Right now – all I can say is Happy New Year! May 2019 be good to you and yours – keep Clicking away! Roger Machin Product Manager PVDVC Products Canon SA
