EDITOR’S NOTE DEAR ALL, This issue finds us in the middle of a whirlwind of events. No sooner had we announced the new camera featured in the last issue and the new lenses in this issue, we then went and announced a whole new batch of 4K capable pro and entry level video cameras. The move towards video has been gaining momentum over the last few years and the demand for higher resolution came a lot quicker than most manufacturers expected. Standard definition was the norm for consumers 10 years ago and HD ready screens were more common than Full HD. The next few years saw an unprecedented growth in Full HD screens for home, more HD content being transmitted by broadcasters and a massive growth in BluRay discs and players. The last 2 years have seen this change yet again as UHD and 4K screens came down in price massively and drove the demand for higher resolution content. As internet bandwidth increases and more families move away from traditional broadcast towards streaming services – the demand for higher quality is not going to slow down any time soon. Fortunately, Canon has a new range of prosumer and professional entry level 4K models to suit this move perfectly – read more in future issues about these cameras. Canon also hosted a large stand at the recent Fespa/Print Africa expo at Gallagher estate as well as sponsoring some workshops and prizes at the Getaway show at the Dome in Northgate. Not to be standing still for a second it appears, but your mailboxes should shortly have invitations for the next round of EOS roadshows coming soon to a city near you. Moving more into the lens feature we saw in the last issue – this issue sees some further explorations into lens possibilities to tie in with the new lenses announced recently. Huge thanks to Quintin Mills for the sample images he shot with the new lenses – please remember to check out our Click Video Magazine channel on YouTube for an interview with him discussing the tilt and shift techniques. Until then, keep Clicking away. Roger Machin Product Manager PVDVC Products Canon SA 1
